Movie a Night; Saturday – Dagon

Saturday night is a turn down night since Sunday is slow and nothing much is done. I chose for the first movie tonight, “Dagon”. I know another Cthulhu film, right. The mythos of Cthulhu is deep, dark and full of mystery and misery, as well as, Sorcery and demonology. It was all invented by H.P. Lovecraft. A man of horrific visions and great writings. This movie is about one of the creatures that he created… “Dagon”.
Dagon – “Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds…. “ (“Dagon” the story)
The movie, like re-animator, is based in the present time instead of the written era. The movie also doesn’t follow the story, but rather, takes the story as a cliff note, a setting and adds to it, weaving a story of the
ancient Philistine legend of Dagon, the Fish-God.
I enjoyed the movie immensely, it was full of that which makes H. P. Lovecraft’s works what they are, dark torment and the sense that the characters truly go insane.
Read some of Lovecraft’s works here; “The Works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft”, you may just find yourself enthralled with the mythos of Cthulhu.
Movie Rating: 9/10
