It’s time that we rate Music and Radio stations, like Movies.

I am at the point where this just makes sense. A song like “Cocaine”, even though it’s and oldie, isn’t a goody. The song is about the use of illegal drugs. No catchy tune will change that fact.
So, why does this get played on the radio? Do i want or need my little kid to hear this, when I should reasonably be allowed to listen to the radio without hearing things that are offensive.
So, here is my idea. Rate every song! Some artists will be upset because an album might get an “R” or “Adult only” label… However, by rating every song we they have a chance to shift their music any way they need. While “Telephone” would be pg13, a song like “Monster Mash” would be PG. If an artist wants to release an album with songs that are rated in the PG13 or higher class, they reduce the usefulness of their music and the amount of people who can listen to it. It however also, opens the market for new artists willing to pander to a certain rating. also, since we have things like Itunes, if a person wants one song off an album they can get just the one song.
Same for radio, all radio stations should broadcast their rating with each “Promo” for the station, or after every 2 songs. whichever is more often. Simply, allowing a parent or concerned citizen to listen to a station without hearing music that is offensive to them.
It works for Movies, and now it is time for Music and Radio to step up.
The PMRC [Parents Music Resource Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://bit.ly/CG4mB] was right. Just in the wrong time period, now with so many avenues of sales, this shouldn’t hurt an artists ability to sing whatever they want to, it just limits the amount of people who have to or need to hear it.
